Many interesting destinations exist in the upper Midwest offering
great opportunities for photographs and peaceful camping. Some are not well
known to the general public but have beautiful seasonal views to offer.
- The Apostle Islands are located in the southwestern
corner of Lake Superior near Bayfield, Wisconsin, and is one of the premiere Midwestern
sailing destinations. The larger Island contains Big Bay State Park and is
accessible by ferry boat.
- Great River Bluffs State Park is located in the
southeast corner of Minnesota near LaCrosse, Wisconsin. The drive from Winona
south along the Mississippi river also offers several high bluff opportunities for viewing
the "great river" on the way to the park.
- The Badlands are a popular destination in South Dakota on
the road to the Black Hills and Mount Rushmore. This trip included a
short stay on a working South Dakota ranch and a tour across less traveled back roads
offering unique views of this beautiful yet rugged land. During this period great fires
threatened the local ranches and surrounding lands.
- Silver Lake is a park area within the city of Rochester,
Minnesota. The lake itself results from a dam that controls the flow of the Zumbro River.
Because it does not freeze completely during the winter months, it is host to
Canada geese, many which reside there year round. The park has an excellent walking
path to take you the 2 miles around and offers many photo opportunities.
