Journal Day 15
Peyton's Woods RV Campground
Twillingate, Newfoundland

There is a God!!   We left in overcast and light rain, but it eventually turned to partial sunny skies, and when we arrived at Twillingate, this beautiful set of Islands in North Central Newfoundland, it was a clear sky... a gorgeous day!

Following TCH 1east this morning, we came to the city of Grand Falls/Windsor in central Newfoundland, and as we were passing through, spotted a Chrysler dealer right along the main road!   I quickly pulled in and stopped by the service entrance... went in and told them about my "check engine" light being on....   they agreed to take a look at it, so I ran out and backed my trailer into the corner out of the way, and then took the Jeep up to the service entrance... they took it right in, and in about 20 minutes had it back out... prognosis...  no problem found...  they said it may have been a loose gas cap after I filled, and it caused a fault and the light went on....  I guess it must stay on until it is serviced...    so I made sure I got the service sheet for my records, hooked up the trailer and we were on the road all in less than an hour....  no more "check engine" light.... for now...  Yeah!!!

Then taking route 340 we headed the 60 miles or so north along "the road to the isles" and to Twillingate...  these islands used to be flourishing fishing villages, but once the fishing stopped, and a moratorium on Cod was enforced, the villages started to fold up and get smaller as the young people left....  the government came and built causeways between a number of the islands that were close together, opening up the area to tourism...  it is just getting going, but is the most beautiful area we have found (all in the eye of the beholder I guess) so far...  both Suzanne and I are enchanted with the area and plan to spend several days here... there are several museums and a small dinner theatre nearby...   this perfect beautiful day was great for driving along the shores and taking photos of the villages and shore lines...  if the weather holds for the next day or two, I  should have some great photos to share...   this is definitely a must see spot for those visiting Newfoundland, and we would have missed it if it had not been described to us by some campers we met in Nova Scotia...

So here we are.... these days make the whole trip worthwhile... we are camped next to a blueberry patch on the side of the hill, watching a sunset from our view overlooking the entry to the harbor...  tonight it is laundry and possible "uploading"... tomorrow we try to get over to Fogo (ferry to the Barr'd Islands) so we can stand at one of the 4 corners of the "flat earth" (according to the society of the same name)....
