Day 16 |
| We awoke to another beautiful morning... Suzanne was up, had put on
a pot of coffee, and was picking blueberries in the woods behind us..
Then the campground owner, who had left quickly about 8:00 PM last night when a friend
came by and mentioned the fish were biting, came walking up to our camp with about a pound
of fresh cleaned Cod wrapped up and partially frozen from his evening catch... he told us
about being out beyond the bay and seeing whales "blowing" while he was catching
his limit.... we thanked him and put the Cod into the refrigerator to keep it cold
until lunch... I sat back and thought of how unique we were to be enjoying this rugged form of camping (much like the pioneers that came before us) while Suzanne was preparing our blueberry pancakes for breakfast.... The pancakes were great although I think she picked a few too many blueberries as they kept oozing out of the corners of my pancakes... they didn't require any syrup... After that we got in the car and toured a few of the smaller villages on the sideroads that we had missed yesterday... more great views.... we picked up a bottle of wine on the way back to use for poaching the Cod steaks... Suzanne set the picnic table outside, with the microwave on the corner (plugged into our ouside outlets) and put in the Potato to bake.... then she steamed the bag of yellow and green string beans we picked up at a farmer's market along the road, and started the Cod poaching... What a great lunch! All this time I was thinking.... the pioneers really did not have things so bad.. We enjoyed our day in camp and touring the sideroads so much we decided to delay our trip to Fogo Island until tomorrow... we are going to the local dinner theatre this evening... This is a very relaxing place to be.... |
