Journal Day 4
"Loose in Quebec City"

Finally we got a break in the weather, and today (Sunday) was a beautiful sunny day with near clear skies... a great day for taking the ferry from Levis across the St Lawerence River to visit Quebec City.    The ferry was about a 10 minute drive from the campground and we could leave our car there.

On the way to the ferry, I noticed the "check engine" light was on in the Jeep....  we dug out the manual and it gave a number of possible reasons including loose gas cap, bad gas, etc...   it said that the light did not indicate a serious problem that would prevent us from driving the car for awhile...  hmmm..  I guessed it might be Canadian gas...  we stopped and filled up at a Shell station but that did not help... a bit frustrated, we headed on to the ferry and decided to put it out of our minds for the day.

We bought our tickets, and sneaked down the exit ramp to get a view across the river.   Arriving at Quebec City on the ferry was like being in a number of other large cities on Sunday afternoon (Battery Park in NYC, the Wharf in SF, etc..).   Quebec City on the St Lawerence side has two levels... the old city that is along the water front and mostly tourist shops and quaint sidewalk cafes now... and the newer city sitting  up above with the governor's mansion  rebuilt several times over the years as governing changed hands...  there was lots of street action to entertain you...    And a myriad of alleys and back streets with shops to investigate...  Cable cars lift you up to the new city where you can overlook the old city and the St Lawerence.

Since it was about noon when we arrived, most of the sidewalk cafes were full, so we picked one and were added to the waiting list while we investigated some of the adjacent shops.  Finally called, the food was great!  Washed it down with a double espresso, we were ready to go watch the action...    After an afternoon of window shopping and people watching, we were anxious to get back to camp.

We retraced our route, taking the ferry back across to Levis and picked up the car... the "check engine" like was still on, so when we returned to camp we decided to stay over on Monday and try to find a Chrysler dealer....  Looking in the yellow pages we found a list of dealers, and one conveniently down the highway about 10 miles...   we plan to get there early in the morning with hopes to get the problem diagnosed...  we were also able to download our email at the office...
