Day 5 |
| If this was easy, everyone would want to do it!
High winds started in the evening shaking the Aliner hard all night... in the middle of
the night, rain joined in and pounded us well into the morning.... there were a
number of tent campers still in the park, with their tents flapping in the wind....
the Aliner stayed dry as a bone inside, but we had left our rain gear in the car...
Suzanne was up early and looked for a break to run get it out of the car... we were
dressed and on our way to the Chrysler dealer by 7:30. We got to the Chrysler service department before the mechanics had started work... they were checking in cars to be serviced.... I talked to the service manager explaining the "check engine" light problem... he shook his head looking at the busy schedule for the day, but finally said he would have one of his technicians take a quick look at it and see if it was something simple... They were patient with me although not very happy that they were forced to practice their english with me.. the technician had it in and out in about 20 minutes, finding that a "fault" had been detected indicating a leak in the evaporator portion of the fuel system... (not sure what all that meant)... nobody wanted to come talk with me so they gave the receptionist the final papers and had her tell me with a smile "it is ready and all covered under warranty"... but I asked to speak with someone that could explain what they had done... she reluctantly went back and on returning said someone was coming.... finally the head mechanic came out and managed to communicate that they had tightened something and it was OK now... he also said that if the light comes on again not to worry about it, just drive back home and get someone to look at it there... I think Chrysler service departments have been kept busy dealing with the complex set of computer generated codes that are triggered from varioius components for non critical issues... we thanked them and were back on the road... no more warning light.... Back to the camp, still raining, but light enough to start packing... we had
everything together and were on the road by 10:30... heading east along the St Lawerence
toward the Gaspe Peninsula of Quebec.... it rained and then dense fog set in
for a portion of the way... then cleared and we could see the St Lawerence
again.. we stopped and sat along
the shore for a few minutes... The shore
was very rocky and water looked like it was low, allowing debris to show through along
areas of the coast... There was a polution
warning restricting taking and eating any shell fish from that area. The rest of
the area was actually quite beautiful with the high bluffs and trees. We have two more days of driving to get to North Sydney and check in for the Thursday morning ferry to Newfoundland... |
