We camped away from Bar Harbor to avoid the high prices of campgrounds (some as high as $45 a night) in that area. We drove into theAcadia National Park which surrounds Bar Harbor, showed our Golden Age park pass, and took the long loop drive. Gorgeous scenery, even with the overcast skies. The fall colors lit up the sides of the hills. There were many places to stop and view the unique rocky formations along the seashore, and ultimately there was a climb to the top of a hill that would have offered spectacular views had it not been completely socked in with fog when we arrived. We plan a return trip when the weather is better and we have more time to spend, but still avoid the congestion that was evident in Bar Harbor with all the tourists. Although beautiful, the congestion in areas like this make us realize why we
enjoyed Newfoundland so much.... the natural beauty without the traffic.. |
